Just started the pill and my period is starting and stopping repeatedly and last!

Question: Just started the pill and my period is starting and stopping repeatedly and lasting longer than usual.?
I started the pill a month ago after my period so this is my first period to actually be on the pill. My period normally lasts about 3 days but so far this one has lasted about a week up until last night it was almost just spotting. It started off i was only bleeding when i wiped for about 2 days than i had to start wearing a pad and i would bleed for a few hours and than it would completely stop until the middle of the night or next day and start again. Yesterday i had went almost 24hrs without bleeding and had pretty much declared it done but that night it started back up again and it is now a heavier flow like it normally is and not the spotty thing that was going on before.
The doctor had told me that my periods would be lighter and maybe only last a day or two since mine only lasts three days to begin with. Not sure if i can stand a period that will last over a week.

My period was pretty much pain-free this whole time except the first two days when i was only bleeding if i wiping.

Your body can take up to 3 months to adjust itself to any new medication. Be patient and wait it out. Take your pill *every* day, as close to the same time as possible each day. Consistency is the most important thing with birth control pills. Your period should "even out" by then, be much lighter and last for a shorter time. After a few months, you will be able to pinpoint exactly what day you're going to get your period. Just give your body time to adjust to it.

that's totally normal. before i started birth control my period was four days long, but my first period after i started was 16 days long on and off. it sorted itself out though
