I have questions for anybody on the pill?!

Question: I have questions for anybody on the pill?
I'm 17, and I don't want a lecture about abstinence thank you very much. I'm currently NOT sexually active, but I want it for emergencies, to regulate period flow and my skin if it will help. Of course I know it's not 100% effective always.
Do you gain weight on the pill or is that a myth?
I want to get it, but if I do will my dad find out? I've talked to this close "woman" friend (like a grandmother) and she told me to go on the pill when she found out something and she didn't get mad or anything, but my dad would be really worried and angry if he found out. Is there any way I can get it without him knowing?

Answers:

I'm on Yaz, and haven't gained any weight and its definitely helped my skin a lot, aswell with regulating my periods and making them shorter, lighter, and less painful!
I didn't want my dad knowing either, so I went to the doctor and asked for the pill to regulate my period and to help my cramps and skin issues. She asked if I was sexually active, I said no, and she said that it was fine to be on the pill if you aren't planning to be sexually active.
If you are over 14, theres a privacy policy with your doctor, where she or he cannot share any information with your parents or anyone without your concent. You should be fine if you don't want your dad knowing :)
Good luck, and I recommend Yaz!

Well tell him what you told us. Tell him that you are not sexually active but that you want it to regulate your period flow and help your skin. He shouldn't be mad if you are honest with him straight up! If you get the pills and he finds out later, he might jump to conclusions and you will be in more trouble than if you just told him now. Also, if you get it from a doctor, they HAVE to keep your information confidential. Even from your parents. I think its illegal to give out that sort of info! Hope this helped! and good luck

i'm on the patch, but it supposedly has the same side effects as the pill, although i never experienced any. just go to planned parenthood if you don't want your dad to find out

Everyone reacts differently with different versions of the pill (that's why there are so many different versions). I think you can probably go to planned parenthood in your area and get birth control without your parents consent, so they will never know if you don't want them too. But the pill isn't something to be used for 'emergencies' you have to take it EVERY DAY! some will help with period/cramps and some will help your complexion and some will make you gain weight. If you try one version and it doesn't work the way you want it to, you can try a different one.
