Firstly - don't use soaps or feminine washes as some others have suggested.

Your vagina is self-cleaning, as well as discharge cleaning out dirt it's slightly acidic, this helps kill off harmful bacteria - washes make it less acidic so easier for harmful bacteria to grow, they can also irritate, dry-out vaginal/vulva tissues, and kill off healthy bacteria. The same goes for 'feminine' washes because they claim to be 'pH balance' but will never match your own personal and ever changing vaginal pH - these products are made purely make money. All you ever need to do to stay clean is wash daily using water, then wipe between your labia with your hands to clean away dirt - soaps, washes, anything like that does more harm than good, and you don't need them at all.

If you do smell fishy then you need to see your doctor.

Your vagina is supposed to smell like a vagina; musky but clean, and although that changes as hormones in your body changes it should never smell bad. A fish-like smell is a result of bacterial imbalance...sometimes washing with soap or letting other chemicals come in contact with your vagina can cause this, but sometimes is a sign of a bacterial infection like Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).

The STI Files: Bacterial Vaginosis - http://www.scarleteen.com/article/infect…

Every woman gets BV sometime in her life, you don't have to have had sex to get this infection, it's just classed as an STI as it is more common in women who are sexually active. It isn't a sign of being unhygienic, it's just that our vagina's have a very delicate balance of 'good' and 'bad' bacteria that can sometimes get thrown out of balance - some things like washing with soaps or washes, chemicals on our clothing, using tampons or commercial pads/liners, or not practising safe sex can put you at higher risk of infection, but sometimes they just happen without any noticeable reason.

A doctor will take some simple tests to see if there is an infection, if there is an infection like BV they will give you antibiotics - this is the only way to get rid of an infection like this, as antibiotics can sometimes cause a different type of an infection, called a yeast infection, some doctors will give you treatment for that too just in case. It's really no big deal though.

Make sure to stay hygienic by washing daily with water, avoid liners, if you menstruate use a menstrual cup instead of tampons or cloth pads instead of commercial pads as these carry no risk of infection and are far more hygienic. Wear nice cotton panties, avoid anything tight or synthetic, and if sitting down a lot in school walk about whenever you can to get air circulating down below - it's all about staying cool and dry down there as getting warm and sweaty encourages odour.

Just make sure you're using a gentle soap every day. That should get rid of the smell. If it doesn't, see your doctor, because you might have BV, a bacterial imbalance.

Don't worry. This is completely normal. Try using a cleansing soap or an anti bacterial soap. IF you want to, also try using one soap one day, then another soap the next day.

For a girl your age its completely normal.
