I haven't had my period in 7 months, why?!

Question: I haven't had my period in 7 months, why?
I tried looking online, and all I came up with is PCOS.

Story:
I'm 20 years old. I'm a bit overweight, I'm 5'1" and 133 pounds.

I haven't had my period since August 2010. However, I did go off Seizure medication (Topamax) on September 1st 2010. However, can this make me lose my period like this?

The only other signs I have is frequant urination.
I sometimes have a brown spotting on my underwear, but that doesn't happen to often though.

My mother has Chrome's disease, are these signs of it?

If you ever miss 4 periods in a row you should see your doctor.

- are you extremely active? because i know that many females who are extremely active do not recieve their usual menstraul periods. Also, I am thinking that the fact that you just got off of seizure medication might have something to do with it, im assuming youve been on seizure medication for a while, but then recently got off of it? which could definitaley have something to do with this. It is odd thought that you havent had it for 7 mths when you stopped taking the medication back in september. I would consult your OB/GYN and see what they have to say, this is unusual and you should get checked out to make sure everything is working properly down there.

It sounds like a hormone issue. If you're stressed alot your period could stop. If you're too heavy, you're period could stop, too skinny it can stop.
I think you should gosee a doctor, I dont know about the Chrome's disease, but you mentioned extra hair on your body that could be a hormone change, something medication can slow down and fix. I say, go see your gp.

If you are sexuallyactive, it is time to take a pregnancy test. If ppregnancyis ruled out PCOS would be my next best guest. How ever you really should see your GYN. I have PCOS and without taking medication I don't get a period. Not having your period is not a sign of Chrons disease. Chrons disease is iinflammationof your large intestine.

Well, I think you found the right answer. PCOS is by far the most common cause. There are other causes, but you are showing signs of PCOS:

- tendency to become overweight
- absent periods
- hirsutism (hairiness).

Note that your frequent urination may be either an early sign of diabetes type 2 (excess blood sugar causes the frequent urination) or insulin resistance. Also note that PCOS is caused by elevated insulin due to insulin resistance. It's the elevated insulin levels that mess with your ovaries, causing them to make too little progesterone and too much LH and testosterone.

So it is all hanging together. Sounds as if you are either insulin resistant or type 2 diabetic, and that has led to PCOS. You need to control you insulin levels. This can be done with drugs (metformin) or through diet (a low glycemic index diet, and a diet rich in d chiro inositol). Once you get your insulin levels normalised, your periods should come back. And if you follow the low glycemic index diet, the frequent urination should stop (as the diet avoids foods that give a rapid rise in blood sugar levels).

Time to visit your doctor I think, and get your insulin levels checked. I would recommend a glucose tolerance test with insulin levels (IGTT), not just fasting glucose/fasting insulin. It's more diagnostic of insulin resistance.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
