You'll have to explain what you mean.

Abortive means failing to produce the intended result, the intended result is to prevent unwanted pregnancy, like any other birth control methods there is a risk of pregnancy, but as the IUD is 99+% effective with perfect use the risk of unwanted pregnancy are slim.

If you mean IUD's would be used in abortion, no, that's not true. Abortions are carried out during the early stages of pregnancy either via medical abortion such as RU486, M&M or “the abortion pill" taken up to 60 days after the missed period, or surgical abortions vacuum aspiration (MVA) or electric vacuum aspiration (EVA) within the first trimester.

IUD's can be used as emergency contraception up to five days after unprotected sex, this does not abort but instead prevents sperm reaching the egg, or if it has already reached the egg it prevents implantation by effecting uterus lining. But copper IUD's used as birth control effectively work as a sort of natural spermicide by effecting sperm mobility and killing sperm so it can't reach the egg.

If you don't know this then you shouldn't have gotten the IUD.

The IUD prevents both fertilization and implantation, but generally does not prevent ovulation. Most medical organizations define pregnancy as beginning with implantation. By this definition the IUD is still considered contraception. However, life begins when fertilization occurs, so many Christians would consider the IUD an unacceptable method of birth control as it poses a risk to pre-born life, i.e. the potential to cause a very early abortion.... its open to interpretation as to when you believe life begins... at conception or implantation.

no, it stops the egg from being released which means that it can't join with a sperm cell, so a child can never be conceived. although, it can be inserted after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy, that's probably what you're hearing about
