Brown discharge about 3 days before my period ?!

Question: Brown discharge about 3 days before my period ?
I'm on birth control. I've been on there for about 3 & half weeks. I havnt missed any days. I've taken them at the same time everyday, except for twice. (one day I was a hour and 45 mins late, and like two days later I was about 30 mins late) I've been taking them on time everyday for the last week. I have had unprotected sex once, he didn't ***. (yes I'm positive). The past few days I've had stomach aches, stomach and back cramps. Which are usual signs of my period. I don't start the rest week until wednesday. I think I might have messed up because the doctor told me that I could start the pills immediately, and I did, but a few weeks later I read the book and noticed that it said that I should either start on the first day of my period or on the first Sunday. I started as soon as I got them. I've been checked for STD and HIV and all that and so has my boyfriend (yes I'm sure he's been checked) and now I have brown discharge. It'd sticky and gooey, dark brown, no odor. Could somebody tell me what this is or means

Brown discharge is just old blood. There is nothing to worry about.

It's your period and yes, you screwed up being an hour and 45 min. late!!!
So finish out what you have in your pack, let your period come full force, and start the new pack on the date you are supposed to.
And you should also be using protection while having sex for the first two months of being on the pill. It takes awhile before that really takes effect. I'm sure your doctor told you that. If not, shame on him.

Could just be your period starting up. I had the same thing happen when I started birth control. FREAKED ME OUT! But, the doctor said that for the first couple of months it may not be regular anyway

My personal doctor :D

Sometimes oral contraceptives can cause breakthrough bleeding even when you're on active pills. Don't worry about it. I've been on the Pill since I was 15, on and off, for health reasons. I'm 26 now. Sometimes I get breakthrough bleeding and spotting, and my gynocologist says that's not a problem. Brown is just old blood from the uterus. It takes about four to six months for the Pill to regulate your period. Don't worry.
