is it reasonable to ask to go on birth control?!

Question: Is it reasonable to ask to go on birth control?
My period lasts usually 7 days, 5 heavy. The cycle is every 3 weeks. I am 15 and a half. I am thinking of asking my mom to let me go on birth control to shorten my periods. I have had my period for ruffly a year and a half and it is pretty regular. Is it reasonable to ask for birth control?

Sure.

I have really bad cramps. I end up bed ridden for 1-2 days with them. They are so bad, my mother put me on birth control to help with them when I was 16.

Yes and if your period are the way that you describe, your doctor will agree. Birth control can be effective in controlling your hormones which will help you with bleeding, the length of your period and your cramps. Your doctor can also give you prescription strength motrin to help you with the cramps as well if you still need it after you start birth control.

You should know that finding the right birth control can be a bit tricky. Some girls get it right on the first go and others have to shop around. You should talk to your doctor about side effects and what shouldn't happen and don't be afraid to speak up. Birth control shouldn't make you feel worse, but when you find one that works, you will be happy that you did!

I think that would be a sensible solution. Just assure your mom that you are wanting the pill for period control, not birth control!

Absolutely. It sounds like your having some real problems and birthcontrol could really help...go for it
