First, I love your screen name! Ok, moving on...

You will most likely be questioned on your symptoms by the DR so write them down in advance so you don't forget anything (I am sure your mom will help you with this). You may be asked to undress from the waist down (I recommend keeping your socks on though) and you'll be given a sheet to cover up with.

The DR will probably have you lie on your back while she presses on your stomach, feeling for abnormalities. If she wants to do an internal exam (sometimes called a pelvic exam) it will go like this:

-You will have to lie on the table and there will be footrests (called stirrups) that stick out the end of the table. The DR will wear a glove and use a lubricating gel on 2 fingers, then she will insert her 2 fingers into your vaginal canal. This should not hurt but it might be a bit uncomfortable if you don't relax. She will feel around with her fingers and use her other hand to press on your belly. It will be over in a minute or 2.

If she says she needs to look at your cervix or take a Pap Smear then you can expect this:

-The doctor will use a speculum (think long, narrow salad tongs, usually metal) which she should warm up in water before putting a lubricating gel onto it. You will feel the DR's fingers touching you then the speculum will be slid in. This will be uncomfortable but if you REALX (the most important thing you can do) it shouldn't hurt.

-If she is taking a smear she will use an extra long q-tip (well not exactly but you get the idea) to swab the cervix (it feels funny but won't hurt). She may also use what looks like a mascara brush on the end of a stick to take a similar sample (again, shouldn't actually hurt).

-Then the speculum will be removed and you'll be allowed to sit up. Best to bring a panty-liner for your panties because you might spot a little blood and the lubricating gel will come out. You may be given time to clean yourself in the exam or afterwards.

There will be a nurse with you if not your mother and it is good to either have them tell you what's going on or make small talk to distract you. But just remember to breathe and relax and you should be fine.

They will do a breast exam, and then a vaginal exam by inserting a speculum into your vagina and looking up there. Then the doctor will put his hand in your vagina and push on your stomach with the other (this checks for abnormalities or cysts.) It's a bit uncomfortable, but not too bad. I hope this helps.

im only 13 and ive been the a gyno. its not bad. all you need to remember is to be relaxed the whole time. if you're nervous, it wont help and itll take a longer time! so just dont worry about it. although you need to feel comfortable with the doctor. so it would be better if it was a fellow female like us. it would make you feel more safe. or maybe thats just me. but dont worry about it and hang in there. every girl has to go thru it! :D good luck!
