Big change in thyroid in 1 month!?!

Question: Big change in thyroid in 1 month!?
My gyno took bloodwork during a recent visit which showed a TSH level of 6.38 indicating hypothyroid. She sent me to my pcp for management. He tested other levels as well as TSH no more than a month later and everything came out normal including t4 t3 and TSH of 2.1 this time. During the first bloodwork I had recently givenup caffeine and was really sick with a throat ailment. What could have such dramatic affect on the TSH in 1 month? Could this happen again?

Main cause of HypO is Hashimoto's disease, found by testing for antibodies. With it, TSH can be in normal range of .3 - 3, and the person is far from normal! One goes up and down (hypO & hypER) w/ it.

Need to see an Endo.

Hashi's disease

Your thyroid levels (what we know as T4 and T3) indicate the amount of hormones in your system that are generated by the thyroid gland.

TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone, so if you don't have enough T4 (more-so than T3) then TSH increases i.e. the hormone is increased as a response to low T4's to stimulate the thyroid to try and produce its own T3 and T4.

The fact that your TSH has changed so much would suggest that your thyroid has had a bit of a rough patch and worked overtime to make its own T's. So initially your TSH was high because it was stimulating your thyroid to make its own. Once the thyroid made its own, your TSH dropped again since it didn't have to stimulate anymore. I'm assuming your T3 and T4 were on the low side in your first test?
