I HAVE to use tampons but im FREAKED OUT! need answers asap!?!

Question: I HAVE to use tampons but im FREAKED OUT! need answers asap!?
im 13, had my first period in august, and im a competitive swimmer and i swim monday-thursday (somtimes fridays) for 2 hours a day and i HAVE to use tampons. I had to take a break for swimming for awhile because i had a broken arm so i never had to go to swimming, but im back.

i do know how to use one and take it, etc., but whenever i walk away from my bathroom i get freaked or neverous or somthing and take it out. When/if i do use them (for the first times) i will put them in just for swimming and take it out right when i get home. Thats about, 2hours and 30min. using it.

please answer these questions and anything else you want to say to help:)

- When did you start your period?
- When did you first use tampons?
- Were you scared and anything when you first did use them?
- Should i worry about TSS?
- Should i worry about it leaking?
- Any other tips?

- When did you start your period?
Summer of 2008 (i was 11)
- When did you first use tampons?
That December
- Were you scared and anything when you first did use them?
I was kinda worried that it would leak, but it didn't.
- Should i worry about TSS?
Not as long as you change it often
- Should i worry about it leaking?
Not if you push it in far enough
- Any other tips?
Use Playtex sport!!

Competitive swimmer

Tampons does not last 2 hours at all and you got to keep changing them and don't freak out when useing them at all and keep trying them!

I started my period when I was 12!
I first use tampons when I was 12 also! I trys them at that age!
I was not scared the first time at all!
You don't need to worry about TSS because you get that if you leave them in for very long!
You need to worry about leaking! Tampons does not last at all like pads do!
Just stick with pads only and tampons when swimming only!

seriously... quick posting the same stuff. you got your answers. if you are not happy with them idk what you should do. deal with a tampon having to be shoved up there or don't swim. its as simple as that

It's ok to use tampons as long as you change them every 4 hours. Leaving them in for longer than that can cause problems.

Can't you ask your Mum??

go on beinggirl.com. it will help alot:)

okay im 13 also , & im turning 14 nest month (: but i started wearing tapons too . but i started my period when i was 8 /: it wasnt cooll at all ! but i tried working the applicater (thats wround the tapon to help put it in) so it will go in and it kinda hurts but the next time you use a tapon it will be way easier ! & leaking may happen but after you use like small sized tapons , you can go up to a bigger sixe beccause you will get bigger . & im not worried about TSS . so just in case dont wear tapons to bed ! becasue thats over 8 hours ! & your mainly supposed to wear a tapon for atleast 4 hours . then you change it .

i hope i helped dear (:

~ I started my period when I was 12 1/2 years old.
~ I started using tampons occasionally at 14 and all the time when I was 15 1/2.
~ No, I wasn't scared.
~ No, you shouldn't worry about getting TSS. It is VERY rare. As long as you don't wear them for more than 8 hours you will be fine.
~ It won't leak if you only keep it in for a few hours. But you should go to the bathroom and check every 2-4 hours.

Just make sure you are relaxed when you put it in. Put it in at an angle (pointing toward your lower back). Use a plastic applicator, NOT cardboard. I recommend the brand "U by Kotex Click". They are my favorites. But Playtex Sport is also a good brand. I'd start out using a Regular or Slim Regular, depending on how "loose" you are and how heavy your flow is. Good luck!!

I started my period when I was 14 and on holiday in Spain.
I didn't use Tampons until my last year of high school aged 15/16. I do a lot of sports and I didn't feel comfortable with pads anymore.
- Yes I was really scared! I didn't know how far to push them up, if they were in right etc. You do get used to it though :)
- No. Tampons are supposed to be changed every 4 hours or so. Considering you'll be under 3 hours wearing one you'll be fine.
- As long as you have a thick enough one in and the right one for the heaviness of your flow you should be fine. I go swimming all the time with tampons in and as far as i'm aware i've never leaked.
- Just don't worry! practise putting them in at home in front of a mirror if you have too. The more you worry about it the more likely you are to have a bad first experience.

1. I started it three years ago, the June before I turned 15.
2. I first used tampons the next month in July.
3. I wasn't scared. I hated pads and already knew about tampons. I am not shy about my body at all, so they were easy to get used to.
4. Don't worry about TSS as long as you change your tampon at least every eight hours.
5. Leaking depends on your flow. I knew my tampon was about to leak as soon as there was fresh blood on the string. Someone else told me they knew it was full if they tugged on the string and it came out smoothly. Whether or not you leak just depends on how heavy your flow is and how well you know it.
