Am I too late? 14, am I passed the prime?!

Question: Am I too late? 14, am I passed the prime?
I was reading a book about first periods and saw that most of the girls where freaking out if they hadn't had their period by 13. In the book they are so angry that its been so long for them and they are all sad that they have had the signs for A MONTH and are so upset about it. Im 14 and have had discharge for 4 YEARS and still NOTHING. Is 14 late on average?

Answers:

In a lot of cases now this is a bit late. But there's nothing to worry about. I have a friend that was almost 15 when she started her first period and had signs for as long as she could remember.

P.s. There's nothing to worry about until between 16 and 18. If you still don't have your period then, you should talk to a doctor.

Ohh, and always have pads or tampons around just incase.

I'm 16 and my friends that are girls talk to me about everything (including there periods).

Puberty (for both boys and girls) is not an exact science. There's no rhyme or reason why some girls get their first periods at 11 while others get them at 13 or later. The same with boys, some don't get body hair until much later than others. Everyone's body is different, and it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you or that you're past your prime - you're just developing slower than some others. It will happen though, no worries.

The average age girls get there first period is 11-12, but you can get it anywhere from 9-17. Your fine! You really have nothing to worry about. If you don't get it by the time your 16 then you might want to see a doctor just to make sure every things okay. For now, just enjoy life with out it.

I was 16 and everything was fine. I think the girls in your book may not be very knowledgeable. 12 is average. 16 is late. So you are somewhere in between. It is actually nice to start your period a little later than average since you are more prepared.

Lol I have the same fricking situation only I've had discharge for almost three years. All my friend say I'm purty damn luckeh so I don't really care. When I was 13 I was really anxious for it, but now I just enjoy being able to swim in the pool every day and being able to wear white shorts whenever I feel like it.

Same situation.

9 to 16 is normal. Any later could be cause for concern. I had discharge for 4 years before I got my period at age 14 and a half. So you will probably get it pretty soon. But don't stress out about it. As long as you get it before age 16, you are perfectly normal.

i know girls who started at 9 and i know girls who started at 18. it's different for every girl. don't worry, be happy! when you get it you will wish you never had lol :)

My mother got hers when she was 15, dont worry unless another year passes.

16 is late. 14 is normal.
