period question *ladies only!!*?!

Question: Period question *ladies only!!*?
i was wondering do you have to change a pad every time you go to the bathroom? sometimes i find that there's only a little bit of blood on the pad, but not enough to fill even half of it. would it be unhealthy to keep the pad on until it's full?

You don't have to change the pad every time you go to the bathroom.

You do need to change the pad every 3-5 hours because even if not full there will still be bacteria and yeast collecting on the pad so you need to change to keep sanitary - obviously if the pad is full before that time then change more often.

It's especially important to change often if you use commercial pads like Always or Bodyform rather than cotton pads like Cottons or cloth pads like Lunapads because these prevent air-flow so make your genitals warm and moist which is perfect for bacteria and yeast to grow, they also contain chemicals that lead to odour and increase risk of infection.

As a note on another answer;
Tampons are NOT more sanitary than pads, they encourage bacterial growth within the vagina, prevent vaginal cleaning, damage vaginal walls and effect vaginal pH, thus why they cause infections and are linked to TSS. Also why tampons can't be worn overnight, before menstruation, during light flow, during infections, or for more than 6 hours without serious health risks - where as pads can. If you do decide you want to use something internal consider safer options like menstrual cups or softcups which are cleaner, safer and more convenient.

The first time i ever had my period i remember being so anxcious about changing my pad, it would be on my mind all day. I must have changed it almost every hour and now ill go the whole day with the same one. I use the overnight pads for when i go to bed(tampons during the day) and I usually go to the gym after i wake up and i wont bother changing it because in a matter of 2 hours ill just be showering and using another one....so basically ill keep a pad on all night and even after i wake up, i hate wasting them if im just going to shower and need a new clean one after. Sometimes its 12 hours

If you changed your pad everytime you went to the bathroom you would run out waaaaay to fast, be resonable, if its on for like 8 hours and its not full then ya change it, but if it fills in like 3-5 hours dont bother changing it until its full. you dont see women changing their tampon everytime they go pee

unless there is some medical reason your not, using a tampon would solve this. if your scared/worried about using one, just try it. read the directions on the box. its easy and WAY more sanitary.

i dont change my pad everytime i use the bathroom.
but you should change your tampon everytime you use the restroom, to prevent infections

No it is not unhealthy. It might start to smell though. I don't bleed a lot so I usually just leave the pad on the whole day.

I am male and I read your question.. Hee hee
