Should I go to the hospital, or wait for a doctor?!

Question: Should I go to the hospital, or wait for a doctor?
Little more complicated than that, but let me explain the situation.

Okay, so it started about a week and a half ago.

I was having vaginal bleeding. I thought it was my period starting, but it was just spotting. I spotted for about three days, then for another four days I was having moments where it was almost like a full period flow, then later on in the day it would stop completely. Yes, completely. Then the next day it would start again.

I went to the doctor's office on Friday to get checked out. Everything seemed normal, but she thought I had contracted bacterial vaginosis, so she gave me a vaginal gel to take care of it. I've been taking it regularly, but now my discharge is thicker than before, and has become opaque. I'm concerned that now I'm contracting a yeast infection.

But that's not what really concerns me. What concerns me is that I've been getting stomach pains and it FEELS like it might be my ovaries. The left one hurts more than the right one, and hurts more OFTEN, but they both hurt. It's not a consistent hurt, but I'll get sudden stabbing pains in those areas. When it started, it was only maybe a 3 out of 10 on a pain scale... it's gotten to about a 6 on the pain scale now.

Basically, I'm wondering what I should do. The doctor I saw on Friday is not back in until Thursday. If it keeps getting worse, I'm not sure I'll be able to wait that long, HOWEVER, I'd like to maintain continuity of care. On top of that, the doctor I saw was the only woman in the office, and I really don't feel comfortable talking about all this to a male doctor.

Should I just wait until there's a female doctor working at the next closest doctor's office (the closest one, where I went, is 5 minutes away- the next closest one is about 20 minutes away but is in the same health network), and go then? Should I try to conquer my embarrassment and get seen sooner? Or should I just scrap both options and go to the ER as in three days the pain has doubled?

I would go to the ER. It could be nothing or it could be something major!

Good luck!

You see, normally there is a delicate balance of "good" bacteria and "bad" bacteria in the vagina.

The good bacteria controls the growth of the bad. When you get bacterial vaginosis, the balance is upset. There are not enough good bacteria and too many bad bacteria.

First, your ovaries cant be in pain, they have no nerve endings. So see if this pain is from your intestines (gas, maybe?) stomach, or uterus. Even so, I would go to the ER. It's never a bad thing to be too careful about these sorts of things.

Just get it over with, doctors are trained to deal with these issues.. Male or female

A woman Dr is best but at this point the pain is the main issue. So set and appointment and go in. The nurse may be willing to relay the info the the male doctor and probably they can just review your previous findings. The lab work should be done by now and the Dr should know whether you really had bacterial vaginosis or not.

Hi there,
I would tell you to go to an Urgent Care Center or to the ER. You could have a very bad infection and you don't want it to go into something that is irreversible. You don't want it to be Toxic Shock
because you have waited to long.
