Question: Why do people think 5'3" on a girl is short?

I'm a 15 year old girl (almost 15 1/2) and about 5'3 1/2" and I hear girls the same height as me all the time talking about how "short" they are. And celebrities, too. I don't get it. I feel like a giant. Maybe it's because every female where I live is only like 4'11"-5'2", I mean my best friend is 5'2" and she's always complaining she feels short around me. I am an ENTIRE inch taller than her. My mom is always complaining about how short she is and she's no shorter than me. Maybe I'm just paranoid? I have really long legs and arms, which I guess adds to the illusion of tallness, but I don't see how 5'3" is short, even on a full grown middle age woman. It just seems average.

Well 5'4 is the average for a girl...depending on where you live. But you still have time to grow and such. Height is nothing to be bothered by, being short has it's advantages as well as being tall. Just embrace your height and ignore what others say. If you are happy with your height nothing else should matter.
I was always the giant among my friends being 6'1 and them being around 5'7 -5'8. I just learned to live with it.

I'm around 5'3" 5'4" and I feel short sometimes lol. but where I live, a lot of girls are 5'5", my best friend is 5'7". so I guess it depends on personal opinion and where you live and who you hang out with. My mom is short, she's only 5'2" =]

Yup I think 5'3" is not short too... I'm around the same height too I think. Anyway, they probably yearn to be as tall as celebrities and that's why they think that way.

Yeah 5'3 is short. 5'5-6 is about average i'd say. im like 5'1 lol i hate being short.
