So... Tampons. What are they like...?!

Question: So... Tampons. What are they like...?
I've never used one before but I'm pretty sure I'll have to sometime soon. Do they hurt? Are they better than pads? What is the best kind? Just any tidbit of info on magic sticks is helpful. Thnx.

Hey! I use tampons and i can tell you completely honestly they dont hurt AT ALL. The only part a teeny tiny bit uncomfortable is removing the tampon but thats a whole different story. Yes, they are WAY better than pads because 1.) You dont ever feel the trickle of blood come out (which freaked me out lol) 2.) Theres hardly ever a mess 3.) You dont have to worry about leaking because some tampons have anti-leakage guard which gives you some time before you change it. 4.) They are easier! 5.) You arent uncomfortable sitting in your blood feeling like your wearing a diaper.

The best kind of tampons for beginners is definetly Playtex Gentle Glide Slenders. They are like the smallest tampons ive ever seen haha :) the only problem is they are kind of hard to find. Normally they have them at Walgreens or CVS. I tried Kroger and for some reason they didnt have them there. They might have them at wallmart idk because ive never looked.
Anyways, another good brand to try is U by Kotex. Ive heard they are great. The last one i recommend is Tampax Pearl, they are great. I wouldnt recommend non-applicator ones or ones with cardboard applicators because they are harder to insert.
Once you have gotten used to tampons for a while, try Playtex Sport. I think they protect the most and they have that anti-leakage thing.
One tip when you are using tampons is to wear a panty liner (i like U by Kotex) just in case you leak. You cant even feel them.
I hope this helps! :)

At first, they're hard to insert because you have to be comfortable while inserting them: whether it's sitting down on the toilet or standing up you just have to figure out which is better for you. No they don't hurt you just have to apply them right which if they are inserted wrong, there may be some discomfort but you'll get the hang of it. I prefer them over pads because when I used pads I didn't like the feeling of having wetness pressed up against my body and sometimes you could smell the pad even if you just put it on. I find the Playtex brand to be the best because it is comfortable and easy to use (either Playtex Gentle Glide or Playtex Sport are best). AVOID cardboard tampons, stick to the plastic, the cardboard ones are a lot more uncomfortable to insert with and they are difficult to use. Here's a word or two of advice: make sure you use the right sized tampon depending on your flow, if you have a light flow use regular size, if your flow is a bit heavier go for a larger size and make sure you change your tampon every 6-8 hours just to be safe, don't worry TSS is extremely rare. :)
Hope I helped.

tampons are tiny cones made from cotton and/or synthetic fibres. There are many different brands and sized, but if you are young and have never used one before, thy the small or junior size ones (also might be 'light days' or something like that).

Generally inserting tampons doesn't hurt, unless the wall of your vagina is already hurt for some reason, or you use a size that is too big for you. Starting out you'll probably find any brand with a plastic applicator easiest to use, because it's smooth and rounded. You could also try a brand like O.B. or Natracare (an organic brand from somewhere like whole foods) which don't have applicators and are very very tiny, maybe a bit bigger than your pinky and are easy to insert too. I personally prefer using the Natracare ones because there is much less waste, and the cotton is organic and chlorine free.

Taking out a tampon is easy, just pull it out! It's important to always use the lowest absorbency for your needs to reduce the risk of TSS, which is a deadly bacterial infection. Make sure you change your tampon at least every 6 hours (never go more than 8). The only time that removing a tampon might hurt is if it's still dry, because the fibres will dry and stick to the inside of your vagina, which means you need to use a lower absorbency.

I think that internal menstrual protection is better than pads, because it's just less mess and more comfortable. You're not always aware of being on your period and don't feel like you're wearing a diaper. And of course you can go swimming or run around naked when you don't have to wear a pad! :) I don't use tampons much anymore though, i use a Diva Cup, which is little reusable silicone cup that you sterilize between cycles. I like it because there is no waste and virtually no chance of getting TSS.

Once you start using tampons, you'll probably enjoy how much more comfortable they make your period. good luck :)

Carter stfu. Shes just trying to find out. When i was younger and about to start wearing them i was asking people.! ANYWAYS. I prefer tampons. To me they are just more comfortable. To some people there better than pads. it just depends. hope this helps hun (:

They don't hurt when inserted properly, i find they are way more comfy than pads(though when i was young i swore id never use them!) the best kind depends on your preferences and your size.
