BV or yeast infection?!

Question: BV or yeast infection?
So I'm 14 years old, my mom is dead and all I have is my dad and my grandma lives in Florida, I live in Maine. I just had my 3rd period and been noticing this smelly fishy odor... But I know it's ok and regular because my body is just getting used to periods, but the thing is that it's been going on before my period, at least a year or so. I'm afraid to tell my dad because I'm embarrassed and we're not that close, however he IS a doctor and that's why we're not close-because I never get to see him(always at work) and my grandma can't help me because she lives so far away, I'd also be embarrassed to tell her.
There is white discharge but yellow -greenish discharge around my inner lips and it builds up just like plaque, which yes, is gross. I don't use soap IN my vagina but around the outer lips and near the inner but not in because I know that's bad for you, I also wash around the anus.
I wash and rinse everyday but it seems like at least an hour after I get out of the shower, it stinks up again.
Also, when do I need to see a gynecologist and pap smears and stuff? I'm afraid they'll be grossed out by the stench... :( I'm so lost, please help me!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me! I'm clueless and the books and websites all tell me the same thing which I don't always understand.

There really isn't a reason to be afraid to tell anyone you have a yeast infection. Although it can be transmitted through sexual contact, more often than not it's something you get after taking anitbiotics.

Here's a little info I got from an article about yeast infection:

Basically the reason you have a yeast infection is because there's an imbalance in your body. A healthy person has a balance between the yeast in their body and the good bacteria in their body.

Too much yeast, you have a yeast infection. Too much bacteria, you have a bacterial infection.

So, when you have a yeast infection you essentially have too much yeast in your body relative to the good bacteria. The natural way to treat it and bring back that balance is to starve the yeast and introduce more good bacteria into your body.

Oh and BTW - That's why you often get relief from using the over the counter meds temporarily, and then the yeast infection comes back. The creams aren't changing the source of the problem. They are just killing the yeast they come in contact with, and not balancing the yeast/bacteria in your body and actually sometimes end up making things a lot worse.

Oh BTW2 - That's also why many times you'll get a yeast infection after using antibiotics. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your body, the good and the bad. When that happens the balance between the yeast and good bacteria is off, and once again and you get a yeast infection.

Things you can add to your diet (to help promote good bacteria) are live yogurt cultures (or take Acidophilus), plenty of water, fresh vegetables, lots of protein rich foods, whey protein, raw garlic, nuts, seeds, oils, millet, rice and oat brans

Things you should remove from your diet (to starve the yeast) are all sodas, sugars, fruit, fermented foods, foods containing white flour, alcohol (especially beer), antacids and any product that has yeast or mold

Changing your diet will definitely get you on the road to balancing the yeast and good bacteria, but what I would also recommend is to use a homeopathic solution to help naturally speed up the process.

I always feel if there's a natural way to do something, then it's best to avoid the chemicals. I would look for an natural product, that can be taken orally to promote re-growth of the good bacteria in your body.

There are a few out there, I think they are probably all pretty good. One that I have used and was very effective for me was is yeastrol.

Hope this helps and best of luck! :) Oh and don't feel ashamed about it!

Don't use soap around the vulva, only water. See if that helps you clear up.

Otherwise only a doctor can tell you if it's BV or a yeast infection. Don't treat it yourself without a diagnosis from a doctor though.

You need your first pelvic/breast exam when you turn 18 or start having sex.

Go see an doctor. I had a similar experience with yellow stain in my underwear and was prescribed medication for BV which get rid of the stain in few days. During your appointment an doctor will exam your vagina and take a swab, which in few days you should be able to find the result of your test. It is important that you go see an doctor as soon as possible. Treatment for BV come in cream or oral. Also try eating natural yogurt it is good for the bacteria in your body.

Different types of infections:

Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching
Buy Monistat 7 over-the-counter

Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva
See a doctor

The doctor will take a swab, but not necessarily a pap.
