How soon will I get my period after i've taken the emergency contraception !

Question: How soon will I get my period after i've taken the emergency contraception pill?
I've been on the Nuvaring for about 7 months. My doctor recommended me to use the continuous method (insert for 4 weeks, discard, and insert new ring for 4 weeks). My boyfriend and I usually take out the ring during intercourse and reinsert it after. But on this occasion I forgot to reinsert the Nuvaring and feel asleep. This was around midnight on Sunday. I discovered that the ring wasn't in my vagina on tuesday morning. I immediately went out and bought the emergency contraception pill that morning. I was in my last week of my nuvaring and was supposed to take out my nuvaring on thursday (today) and put in a new one. But now i'm confused when my period is supposed to come. I'm really worried.

I'm not sure where you're getting the "4 days" from . . . you had unprotected sex on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday morning. And then you took the "morning after pill" on Tuesday, correct?

You probably are not pregnant, but there is a chance. Emergency contraceptive pills do nothing if a fertilized egg has already implanted itself in the lining of the uterus. Theoretically, this could have happened before you took the morning after pill, but "Plan B" is about 90% effective when taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.

You say you're not sure when your period is "supposed to come" - the morning after pill doesn't bring on your period - some women spot a little or have cramps. So replace the ring as scheduled. In two weeks, take a home pregnancy test. If it's positive, then obviously you're pregnant. If it's negative, wait one more week and retest. It it's still negative, you can be sure you're not pregnant.

Your other option is to NOT insert a new ring. You SHOULD get your period and this will put your mind at ease. But it's also possible that you could skip a period and NOT be pregnant - in that case, you'd still have to wait to test to be sure. And you'd have to use a back-up method of contraception.

Taking Plan B oral contraceptive does not always result in a period. Just wait a few weeks and let your system reboot.
