My mum says that she doesn't really want me using tampons because they aren!

Question: My mum says that she doesn't really want me using tampons because they aren't good for you, is this true?
I'm 15 and have used pads since I first got my period (13) but now I'm really starting to get sick of them because they're all gross and feel like you're wearing a nappy XD but my mum said that it's better if I keep just using pads and don't use tampons because they're bad for you. Is this true? I know about TSS, but is there anything else that tampons can cause, or is there side effects to using them? Mature answers only please. Thanks for your help in advance :)

Answers:

I've used tampons since around that age and I've had no problems. I don't believe they are bad for you, as long as you don't leave them in to long. If you are concerned talk to your school nurse or family doctor. ^^

Edit: Oh I forgot to say, there are some made for younger girls that are smaller than the regular ones. If you haven't really had anything "up there" I suggest using them. I tried using a regular sized one before I had sex and it felt uncomfortable and actually kinda hurt.

No, tampons are not bad for you: they are safe if you change them regularly and convenient. Girls much younger than you use them without any problems. And for most girls who have never had sex, tampons don't break the hymen, as they were once thought to do. Try asking your mom why she believes they are bad for you?

yes your mom is correct
Never use a tampon as –
1) It has many risks
2) It causes our hymen to break
3) It causes a lot of pain to insert them
4) They cause TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome)
5) They contain bleach which is bad for our health

BUT, pads do not have such risks; they are easy to wear, comfortable and hygienic.

f so you have to consult with a gynecological.
