Question about anxiety attacks and the flu (probably dumb)?!

Question: Question about anxiety attacks and the flu (probably dumb)?
Yesterday I learned one of my cousins had to be rushed to the hospital because she had an anxiety attack and ended up passing out. They also said she had the flu as well. But I don't get it, I mean I know she has been stressing herself out lately because she's been working alot lately and hardly getting any rest and thought she just had a cold (or at least that's what she said). The thing I don't get is why is she in the hospital? Can't she recover at home? Plus can the flu cause an anxiety attack?

Hey Angela.. I can understand your concern towards your cousin and the curiousity which u are going through..

firstly there is no specific cause to get a flu.. it can be because of weather, or her lifestyle or may be because of the stress.. coming to anxiety attack, it might have been caused due to the stress she was going through..
Flu and anxiety are not related directly hence they are dealt seperately..
although anxiety cannot cause flu but yes, chances are that flu might have caused anxiety attack due to the rise in her body temperature..

coming to your other question,, as u mentioned that she had passed out hence the docs cannot take any risk to allow her to stay at home.. she has to be under observation for couple of hours (either 24/48/72 hrs).. considering the fact that she had 2 things associated with her flu and anxiety chances are that the drugs can interfere with each other and cause complications specially at night.. hence if something goes wrong at home, you wont have any immediate medical assistance.. and by the time she is brought back to hospi the condition might become worse.. hence its advised for her to be at the hospital under observation..

All the best...!!

She could recover at home but some people feel better when they're in the hospital. And because she was soo streesed out it lowered her defenses and that's prolly how she got the flu. And the flu can't nessessarily cause an anxiety attack but if she's really stressed out, it can be caused by that. And because she passed out, something could be wrong, like blood levels, oxygen. A lot of things. I hope she's doing better.

I suffer from anxiety attacks as well, and had to be rushed to the ER also. Anxiety or panic attacks are hard to describe to someone who has never had one. You may feel like you have no control over your own body. and her having the flu on top of that was probably making her feel tired, weak, neausea, which may have just made her feelings escalade.

Anxiety attacks are not to be taken lightly. if it was sever enough that your cousin passed out you should take it seriously. Her flu may have caused infection in the lungs a reason why she would stay in the hospital
