How to convince parents to let me go on the pill at 15?!

Question: How to convince parents to let me go on the pill at 15?
I'm 15 and for the last couple of years I've had a pretty tough time with my period. My skin breaks out terribly in the two or three days before it and I get bad headaches and cramps. My flow is always rather heavy, especially in the first three days or so, and it lasts sometimes up to seven or eight days. I always just cover the acne with makeup and I never let anyone see that I'm in pain because I don't like people to know I'm weak, haha. But I'm pretty much sick of it, and I'd like to go on the pill, maybe yaz or something, that will help with the acne especially--I have really clear skin usually, and rarely wear any makeup but eyeliner, but it looks awful for about four days(it starts to clear up a couple days into my period). But I don't want my parents to think i'm having sex-- I do have a boyfriend and my mom already suspects things, but we aren't--and won't be anytime soon-- having sex. So I don't need the literal 'birth control' part; I'm just sick of putting up with mother nature's BS and I'd like to make it a little better. I stay at my mom's and dad's houses equal amounts of time. Should I go to my mom first? Or my dad, or my doctor? I don't go to an obgyn, because I'm 15 and not sexually active, but I do regularly go to a normal doctor. I'm just not sure what to do but I do feel like going on the pill would really help me with my monthly problems.

Answers:

The first person you should talk to is your mom, because she's a girl too and will be able to relate to your issue. Although you should talk to your dad as well, your mom should hear you out first. I started birth control at 14 and I love it! I'm not on it for sexually active reasons though. It's cleared up my skin immensely and I hardly EVER get my period. I don't even remember the last time I had one. I've also lots weight on it too :) Before talking to your parents, write down your reasons for wanting to get on birth control. Explain to them that you can get a prescription for as low as $5 a month, that will benefit you in more ways than one. Let them know that you don't plan on having sex any time soon within the next few years and that you want to focus on your education. But also tell them how your acne, headaches and your period are effecting you at home and at school. It should get to them after a while. My mom put me on it right when I turned 14 because she knows how rough periods can be.
I take a generic brand that's only $5 a month and it works just as well as he expensive ones. I don't recommend YAZ though because they have ALOT of reported side effects- depression, headaches, anxiety and anger. Also- I don't recommend getting the birth control shots because even though they can last for years, they make you gain weight like crazy!
Hope this helps! You can email me if you have any more questions. (Best answer?)

I think you should just talk to your mom about it. Explain to her that your periods are really heavy, you get bad cramps, and you get headaches and acne. A lot of teenage girls get on birth control specifically for this reason; half of them aren't even thinking about sex right now.

sit down with your mom and tell her the truth! a lot of teenagers get it for their periods, I did. it helps a lot. and if you need to, you can show her what you just explained to us and see what she thinks. but yea, all you can really do is sit her down and talk to her about it. good luck!

talk to your mom...leave dad out of it...just my 2 cents

a Dad

No, you need to go to an OB-GYN. if the reason you want to go on the pill is because of problems with your period, then you need to see a doctor who specializes in that kind of thing. there are a lot of conditions that can cause period problems and you may have one of them. if the OB-GYN says you need to go on the pill, then your parents are not going to have a problem with it. i don't know that your family doctor would even perscribe you birth control pills if you asked, he'll probably send you to the gyno.
