Did I have my first period?!

Question: Did I have my first period?
Hi, um..this is really embarrasing. For the past few days, im getting, like, brown, gooey discharge in my panties. Some thin but a few thicker places. Im not sure if this is my first period or not, and im kinda freaked out because im wondering if a have some sort of disease.
Thanks.

It's your first period. First periods often look more like brown discharge, maybe with some red blood mixed in at times (particularly after wiping when using the bathroom). Most girls have their first period anytime from 18 months to 3 years after they begin to develop breast, and anytime from 6 months to 2 years after they start to have clear/white vaginal discharge. You should write down the date this started so you know around when to expect it next month, but don't freak out if it doesn't arrive at that time because some girls periods are irregular (meaning they could come once every 3 weeks, or every other month) for the first 2-3 years of having them. In rare cases, a girl may get her first period and then not have another for several months. Be prepared, your next period will more than likely be more red and blood-like (my 2nd period freaked me out because the first had just been brown discharge like). You should tell your mom you've started your periods, so you can get some pads.

Congratz and welcome to womanhood :)

Not a disease, probably you'll get it soon. That's how it usually starts, with a brownish discharge.

yup, thats your first period, forsure not any disease! your first few periods will be brown, pretty light and short before they really start. if your worried about this though you should go talk to your mom! good luck (:

Thats your period :)
