I have a blister. Should I pop it?!

Question: I have a blister. Should I pop it?
It's one of those fluid filled blisters. I do gymnastics and am so used to popping blisters and ripping blisters all the time on my hands, but that's different. This one is on my foot from my shoe and someone told me not to pop them because they'll scar. Is this true? What do I do ?

Answers:

Well I have had those blisters, popped them and I don't have a scar.

Some people say don't pop them, but really they will pop sooner or later like a pimple will. It's better to pop it now when things are sanitized then in your un-sanitized shoe.

So get a sewing needle and either hold it in a flame for a few seconds and rub it with some rubbing alcohol or you can just to the rubbing alcohol it you want. Clean the area carefully that you are going to be working with. With the needle make a tiny hole. Push the fluid out and try to put the skin back where it usually is. Put antibiotic ointment on it (Neosporin) and a clean bandage over it.

Good luck!

EDIT:
If you make a tiny hole it shouldn't hurt.

It won't scar but it will hurt HORRIBLY if you pop it too soon.

Let it dry out and pop on it's own - the water will protect you from the pain. Try and wear other shoes in the meantime.

Don't do the needle trick - partly because if the needle isn't sanitized you may give yourself an infection (not cool!)

just pirck it with a needle so it makes a tiny whole to allow the fluids to leak but then forget about it and dont touch it!!!
