You can take this quiz to see if Mirena is right for you:

You must have had at least on child to have Mirena.

I have seen women asking on here about Mirena and Paragard moving and coming out. If you want something that is in your body but won't fall out you might want to look into the birth control implant, Implanon.

Implanon is a small flexible piece of plastic that has hormones and it is inserted surgically under the skin of your arm and protects against pregnancy for up to 3 years.

And the only reason I can come up with as to why Mirena is placed within the first 7 days of your period is that you are unlikely to ovulate at this time. Mirena would be dangerous to a baby. So I am guessing that they want to make sure it's less likely that you have an egg in your uterus that could become fertilized. I have read that getting pregnant on Mirena is never good for you or the baby.

Good luck!

I have had the mirena for almost a year and a half and have not gotten pregnant. I do worry constantly about it but it seems to be ok. I had a bad insertion experience and would recommend having someone come with you to drive you home. I do get cramps and barely have any bleeding with my periods but the first month i bled for the whole month. Its really up to you but really research it. there are other better options such as IMPLANON which is a rod of hormones injected into the fatty part of your arm. heard it is awesome from many women no complaints and not noticeable

I don't know what Mirena is specifically, BUT you said insert, and I do know that birth control that has to be inserted into your body is dangerous. My cousin got one and it broke through the wall inside her, got infected, had to be surgically removed, and now, at 23 she can never have kids....

It is an effective, successful and safe choice. The reason for suggesting that insertion takes place during your period is that the cervix is soft and it is thus easier to fit any coil at this time.
