Birth Control Pills? Help!?!

Question: Birth Control Pills? Help!?
I am 16 years old. Last time I was at the doctors, I got a shot and she asked me all these questions. When I told her that my period was very heavy and lasted for at least 7 days she told me we would have to talk about birth control pills next time I got a physical. My period makes me sick a week before and a week after. I get a little moody too. I am most concerned about gaining weight on the pill though. What is your experience with a pill that lightened, shortened, and helped with cramps during your period. How much weight did you gain (or lose) and what pill were you on?
Thank you!

Answers:

Some people gain weight, some people don't.The pill is very effective at helping to reduce cramps, and to lighten and shorten your period. For me my pill made my period only a few days long, I had virtually no cramps at all and it was very light. I gained a small amount of weight but that was due to health conditions. My pill is called Loestrin 21.

I don't know about the birth control pills, but if your period is making you weak, you're probably losing too much iron. Take iron pills and some Tylenol when you're on your period and you should be fine. Going on the pill seems unnecessary if you aren't even using it for its prescribed purpose.

I was prescribed the pill for the same reason as I was always in a lot of pain when I got my period. However the pill did not work for me It made my headaches and stomach cramps worse and I gained 7 pounds after taking it for a month. I stopped taking it after that.
