Im 20 and afraid to have sex because of STD's and HPV?!

Question: Im 20 and afraid to have sex because of STD's and HPV?
Okay I know this is lame but I am 20 female and I am a virgin because I am still not ready.
But Today after doing some research I found out 80% of females will get HPV virus in their lifetime.

And it can lead to cervical cancer and kill you. So I am afraid to have sex even if using a condom.

Are you afraid too? How do you get past the fear? I don't think I'll ever have sex because as soon as I'll want to - Ill just remember the statistics.

Where can I get an HPV vaccine? Where do they give you the shot?

Answers:

Nope, that is not lame. It means that you're smart and think about things before doing it. I am afraid as well. But as long as you get all the procedures you can such as vaccines and getting your boyfriend tested then you should be fine. Just use a condom and get checked up frequently.

There is nothing wrong with being a virgin at 20.. more power to you!!! Your boyfriend can get tested for std's... it's harder for men to get tested for HPV, but it IS possible.

If you are in a committed, monogamous, relationship, then in the "perfect" situation... your boyfriend will get tested, be clear of any STD's, and will not be having any sexual contact with women other than you while you two are together. Sounds nice, right? =]

Either your doctor or OBGYN can administer the Gardasil injections. It's a series of 3 injections taken over 6 months. Your boyfriend can get the Gardasil injections too!!!

I really hope this helps!! =]

Be in a committed relationship with someone you know has been tested (and the tests are negative of course). Or have sex with another virgin :)! Maybe find someone who's saving themselves for marriage..and you could save yourself for marriage also (plus that could be your excuse to others as to why you're still a virgin).

it is a very real concern, a condom is probably your very best defense

Yeah, that is pretty lame

I think the statistics you have been reading may be just a little high.

I've never had an STD, nor HPV. You can be vaccinated against HPV by your doctor. It is best to have it before you have had sex, as there is no chance you have already contracted HPV. Go and have that done anyway. It is a simple injection into your arm.

When you do decide to have sex, use a condom. Condoms, used correctly, can prevent the spread of all STD's simply by the barrier method. Don't allow any man to tell you he can't feel anything with them, it interferes with his enjoyment, or that he is allergic to them. If he isn't willing to wear one, he isn't worth it.

Your fears are a little irrational. Sex is happening all over, and not everyone has disease. Protect yourself, and you will be fine. You obviously have nobody with whom you would consider having sex. Trust me, when that person comes along, you will want to.
