Answers:
I take hot baths, avoid caffeine (can make cramps worse), use a heating pad, go in the jacuzzi, and drink lots of water. I have a hard time sleeping a lot too but I haven't really found anything that helps except taking an Advil or a Midol before I go to sleep so I don't get cramps. Exercising also helps a lot too! Even just a walk or light jog can make me feel a lot better. OH and getting an orgasm helps me feel sooo much better so if you find a way to do that it should help too especially with cramps :) As for mood swings - I take YAZ birth control which helps to regulate horomones and treat PMS/PMDD symptoms so maybe you could look into that if it is really affecting your life! Just perks of being a girl I guess :)
If this is a huge issue, you might want to talk to your doctor and consider oral contraceptives (my sucky period is why I am on them). Some natural ways or over-the-counter ways are peppermint, rose hips, pain medications, and heat packs. Another wonderful way to reduce your period, is to exercise. Regular exercise shortens and lightens a period. Exercising (going for a jog) helps loosen up the muscles and relieves the pain. Also, if you are comfortable, orgasms also loosen the uterus, and thus relieve the pain.
If you do not have a heating pad then just a hot water bottle will do.
get a heating pad - seriously helps the most!
