Having a bath after a vaginal birth?!

Question: Having a bath after a vaginal birth?
When can this happen? Did it hurt if you tore?

I gave birth(still birth) on sunday afternoon. I tore a little and I have 4 stitches I think. I know the doctors told me about Epsom salts and baths but I was so doped up and upset I can't remember what they said or when they said to have one. After traveling home by plane last night and sitting in a hospital for a few days I really want nothing more then a hot bath. I have had 3 showers, but they are not really doing the job. Should I wait another day or should it be ok now?

Answers:

I took baths to soak where I tore that day I gave birth in the hospital....that was also the only way I could pee. I think it should definitely be safe.

It should be fine to have a bath, I would have thought after a vaginal birth the warm water of a bath would be quite relaxing and soothing if you're sore. I am so sorry to hear of your loss - I know someone who went through this, time is a great healer. Although I know that's of no consolation right now. x

Epson salt would probably hurt in a bath, it would burn. I would stick to the shower or if you must take a bath, do not put Epson salt. Take a shower for a good week and then try the bath.

I am sorry about your loss and hope you feel better soon!
