My mom won't let me use tampons!! :(?!

Question: My mom won't let me use tampons!! :(?
I'm 14 and have had my period for a year now and I want to start using tampons. I have asked my mom MULTIPLE times if I could use tampons and she always says no. I really want to use them but she says I won't be a virgin and it will break my hymen...she even wants to take me to a gynecologist! I would just use them without her permission but I'm scared that she will actually take me to the gynecologist and then the doctor will tell her that I have been using tampons. We aren't even talking because I'm SO mad at her..she gets sad when I'm mad at her so maybe I have made a break-through. And please don't call her stupid because she is just looking out for me.

Answers:

You're right-- your mom is just looking out for you. However, losing your virginity only happens when you have sex-- nothing else causes this. And many times, girl's hymens are broken without ever having sex. I broke mine riding a bike when I was nine or so. I was fourteen when I started using tampons, so I'm sure you're ready, but your mom is just trying to take care of you. Tell her why you want to use tampons-- maybe you're just sick of pads, or they feel funny. Tampons are more sanitary, too.

She's right to be careful, though-- you can get Toxic Sock Syndrome from tampons, and you have to be very responsible with them.

Just explain to her-- calmly-- why you feel tampons are a better choice for you. Maybe seeing a gynecologist will help as well-- the doctor can tell her the risks and benefits of using tampons, and assure her that just because your hymen is broken doesn't mean you're not a virgin.

I had this conversation with MY mom a few years ago. =)

Unless you are using a penis as a tampon to stop your flow, you will remain a virgin. It won't break your hymen. I've never understood why other mothers are so obsessed with maintaining their daughter's virginity by banning tampons. I mean, if your daughter did use tampons that doesn't mean she lost her virginity. If someone asks what her first time was like, a tampon user wouldn't respond with "Well I was crouching above the toilet putting in a tampon..." Anyways, it even says on the instructions in tampon boxes that USING TAMPONS DOES NOT TAKE AWAY YOUR VIRGINITY.

/end rant

I'm not sure that tampons can actually break you hymen.. i read that somewhere i just don't know where! being a virgin means that you haven't had sexual intercourse and a tampon does not take that away. you're mom is just doing the best for you, my mom wouldn't let me until i started high school gymnastics and you aren't allowed to wear underwear under your leotard.. if you do sports then just say pads are really uncomfortable to be in or something like that.

yeah my mom didnt let me wither when i was 11 till i was 16.
im 17 and she still dosent let me LOL just...u cant do anything. i still use them but she dosent know, if she knew she would freak out.
and use them but dont tell her, also she wont force u to go to the gynocolegist if u dont want to, tell her ur uncomfortable.
and just tell her that pads are uncomfortable/messy and tampons are much better.

same , my mom said the same thing
just buy tampons secretly , thats what i do i love tampons , they feel better so i buy them and hide them and use em ...its been like 5 months and she hasnt caught me , gooood luck

I recommend you just stay with pads and forgive your mother. I think that she only has your best interest at heart.

I'm a chick. haha

Heey. :)

Go to your mum when she has calmed down and explain to her that using tampons doesnt mean you will not be a virgin anymore. When you are a virgin it mean you have not hadsex. It she is worried about the hymen part, remember that heaps of peoples hymen break if differnt parts on there life like riding horses, doing sports and things like that can break it. Why do you want to wear them? Extra protection or because your friends are wearing them? I have had my period for two years and have only worn pads and I'm fine! Hope i helped :)
