Can Oxytetracycline affect my contraceptive pill?!

Question: Can Oxytetracycline affect my contraceptive pill?
Recently, I went to my GP and asked for something to help me with my backne, at first she put me on the Duac gel cream once a night daily, but apparently, it didn't do much difference. So she put me on the Oxytetracycline. I was afraid that it might affect the contraceptive pill that I'm on, but she said that it wouldn't as it's only some antibiotics can affect the pill, she said to me that she personally got this from the higher medical authority so I was definitely safe. But still, it doesn't quite give me the confidence, I'm taking multivitamins, fibre supplements my pill and the antibiotics. I feel like I'm going to over dose one day!

Help me!

Hi, I think your doctor is right have a look at the info below, there's a very low risk. If I was you I'd use condoms if your only on it for a week or so. Best of luck.

If you are taking a combined oral contraceptive (the pill) there may be a very low risk that this antibiotic may make it less effective at preventing pregnancy. Although the risk of this is very low, the personal and ethical consequences of an unwanted pregnancy can be very serious. For this reason, the Family Planning Association (FPA) recommends that women taking the combined pill should use an extra method of contraception (eg condoms) while taking a short course of a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and for seven days after finishing the antibiotic course. If the seven days run beyond the end of a pill packet, a new packet should be started without a break (in the case of ED pills the inactive tablets should be omitted). However, if you are taking this antibiotic for more than three weeks (eg for acne), the effect of the antibiotic on the pill wears off and additional precautions are no longer needed.
