I don't understand how sex can be safe through an entire pack of birth cont!

Question: I don't understand how sex can be safe through an entire pack of birth control pills?
It takes a week to work, which I get. I've been on the pill for 5 months. What I don't understand is how you can be protected when you are taking the 'sugar' pills (placebo) that are not active. And when you start the active pills after your period, haven't the chemicals left your system? How am I protected through my entire cycle and each pack?

Answers:

The bleed isn't a period, it's withdrawal bleeding from not having so much of the hormone in your system anymore. You're not fertile at all while on the pill because the hormones put your ovaries to sleep kinda, put them in suspension, so you never ovulate. Because you don't ovulate, you're fine for that spacer week.

No, they haven't left your system, and it's not enough time for your system to reboot and allow for you to become pregnant. It can take a few months to a few years for your hormones to balance out after quitting the pill.

hormonal birth control pills stop ovulation, meaning that an egg is not released, so you cannot get pregnant.
