3rd year of periods and still irregular?!

Question: 3rd year of periods and still irregular?
I'm 14 and got my period when I was 12. Ever since my first day I've had it irregular. It's usually somewhere in the middle of the month or edging towards the week before the end of the month. Is it normal to still not be regular? My period lasts around 10-14 days. I'm not close with my mum and my friend thinks it's not normal.. what do i do? ;(

Answers:

Lots of people are irregular, and some people never get regular. I had a friend whom was almost exactly like you. You can see a doctor to see if there's something wrong, but really there may be nothing wrong. Periods are very finicky things and most people don't follow the once a month for four days rule. It may be like this all of your life. Or it may change after certain experiences. If it becomes too troublesome, you may want to consider birth control, as it can help regulate periods.

Experience.

Don't worry, I'm thirteen and I started my period when I was eleven and it's always been irregular. Sometimes it will be in the middle of the month but lately it been like at the very end of the month and even goes into the next month! And mine lasts for a long time too. Don't worry about it, it's completely normal. Good luck!

Taking birth control helps a lot. You can get it free at a health department and they won't tell you're parents.
