Ortho tri cyclen Birth control?!

Question: Ortho tri cyclen Birth control?
OKay do I just start taking it whenever? I keep hearing Sunday after my period? but I dont get it? What If my period does not start on Sunday? How does this work?

Answers:

I just started this three months back and here is what my doctor told me:

What the pill does is release hormones into your body to keep you from ovulating. It really does not matter when you start the pill as the hormones will work at whatever point to prevent ovulation. Your period has nothing to do with it, it only signifies what part of your cycle you are at. The only reason period is mentioned is to tell you how long before it's safe to have sex.

There are three times you can start. You can start on the first day of your period, you can start on the Sunday after your period, or you can start whenever.

I started "whenever" on my doctor's advice to get a specific week for my flow so I wouldn't have it during my wedding and honeymoon. However, this meant to be safe I had to start the pill over a month before I could have any sex.

If you start the pill the Sunday after your period, safety says it takes a week to get enough hormones in the right places to stop ovulation. The Sunday is merely a good memorable day to start your period right before ovulation.

If you start on the first day of your period, you are starting on the first day of your cycle. The hormones in the pills work right with your cycle. You are safe immediately.

It's best if you ask your doctor for advice. Did s/he not tell you? Give them a quick call. Or read the papers that came in the pill package.
