How long is too long to sleep?!

Question: How long is too long to sleep?
If I don't get at least 12 hours of sleep, I tend to feel sluggish throughout the day. My husband thinks I sleep too much, but if I sleep lower than maybe 9 hours, I always fall asleep in the middle of the day.

Is 12 hours too much sleep? Or does each person require a certain amount of sleep no matter how short or long?

Answers:

Sometimes, if you sleep too much, you wake up exhausted from sleeping too long and need to go back to bed and sleep longer to recover, you might actually need LESS than 8 hours of sleep.

However, everyone is different, and everyone's situation is different. When I worked intensive manual labor I needed 12 hours of sleep. Now I don't and 6 is fine. My little brother sleeps forever, and naps during the day, and goes to bed early. My younger brother and sister (older than the little brother) stay up til 3 or 4 AM and sleep until about 7 or 8 and are fine. We all sleep longer when we're exhausted from the day or sick or pregnant or anything like that.

If you are in good health, however, and sleeping 12 hours, and done growing (mid 20s about), not partying every night, not working hard manual labor, etc. etc., then you may want to seek out a doctor and find out why your body requires so much sleep.

an healthy sleep for a regular person (age 14-60) is mostly around the 7-8.5 hours... also can be 6.
you need to drink a lot of water during the day and get sunlight to your eyes (not be all day in dark places), also remember not to eat heavy meals or junk foods just before you go sleep. that how your body needs less sleeping hours and get a good deep sleep that gives him a lot of energy!

12 hours does sound like alot. But if your not used too sleeping 9 hours a day, then you would feel sluggish.

If you want to get 9 hours of sleep, maybe set your alarm clock a littler early every day so you start waking up and getting a little less sleep every night.

Get a physical and make sure it's not an early onset of diabetes or low thyroid problem.
