What type of birth control is the most effective?!

Question: What type of birth control is the most effective?
I've read up on this topic lots because I want to be safe when I decide to do it.

From what I've read, the pill is somewhere between 99 and 99.9 % effective. (The only thing I'm worried about is pregnancy, my boyfriend and I have never had sex before and we're planning on being together for a long time, neither of us have any std's)

My boyfriend has done sex ed. in school already, and from what he's learned he's worried that the pill is not very effective. I'm doing sex ed. in a couple of weeks.

We're not planning on doing it anytime soon, but I was wondering what's more effective: the pill or condom, or even both? I would rather just go on the pill and not have to worry about anything else, because from what I've read on the internet (and I've researched this alot) the pill is very effective.

Answers:

Abstinence is the most effective, but barring that, the pill is next. A condom or IUD is next. A combination increases efficacy. So if you use a pill and a condom, you're best protected, except for abstinence.
