Polycistic Ovary Syndrome?!

Question: Polycistic Ovary Syndrome?
Ive been watching embarrasing bodies the past week & i noticed a couple of girls were having tests about their periods and the one girl whos period blood was very heavy and they said it was VERY abnormal seemed my normal 1-2 hour amount? i got a little worried because it said it could lead to aneamia or other diseases.

I also saw that if you suffer from acne/heavy periods/ hair in 'manly' places it means you could have polycistic ovary syndrome?
I have acne on my forehead, higher back.
I have hair on my back, sideburns, upper lip and quite hairy arms.
My periods are very heavy i feel so uncomfortbale when i am on i would rather stay at home.

I am only 15 so i know a answer may be 'your young acne and periods could settle' but ive suffered with the hairiness for years and im so embarrased i only buy certain tops/dont go swimming.

I also DO NOT want to go on the pill as i have a risk of breast cancer in my family & im the paranoid type who dont want to make anything worse.

Thankyou so much if you answer!

Hi

I too have PCOS I was diagnosed at 15 too (I am now 30). Don't be scared to go to your doctor and don't get paranoid about going on the pill, my symptoms when i was your age were irregular periods, acne, darker bodie hair (i am half italian so the darker bodie hair didn't bother me that much) and weight gain. After they did all the tests (ultra sounds, blood and urine tests) they confirmed it was PCOS and they put me on Dianette (the pill) to help with making my periods regular, to clear my acne and to reduce the darker body hair. My advice is to get it checked out asap because if you want to have children in the future it is going to be hard to get pregnant, also speak to your mum about any history with problems with periods in her side of the family to be sure as you might get asked about this by your doctor.
Don't worry yourself, you are young and the condition is more common now then when i was 15, so there are people and good websites that can help. Just be positive and if you do have PCOS do not let it make you feel down, speak to someone it will help.

If you are concerned then you should see a doctor.
