When i first started using tampons, I used vaseline for a lubricant. And it's perfectly fine to practice without being on your period
KY Jelly is the traditional one but anything in a chemist that they sell as lubricant. I would be cautious about using anything that's not specifically designed to be a vaginal lubricant though as it can irritate the area.
The tampon would be fine to go in but you need to use lubricant on it first to ensure that it will come out easily! As already mentioned, taking the tampon out and just practising with the applicator would be an idea too. (:
Yes, you can stick a penis or dildo in your vagina when you're not on your period so why not the plastic applicator? Just relax and try to get the right angle and you shouldn't need lubricant. If you really wanna use it I don't see any harm as long as it's safe lubricant.
