Im just starting to take birth control. this is my very first contraceptive of a!

Question: Im just starting to take birth control. this is my very first contraceptive of any kind. i have a question!?
My doctor told me to take it the sunday after i get my period. But I was away and i didnt pack my birth control because I didn't think that my period would arrive two days ahead of schedule. anyways, tomorrow is monday, can i start the pill then? my doctor only gave me one reason why i should take it the sunday after i get my period- because this way i wouldnt get my period on a weekend. is that the only reason? and if so, can i take the pill monday morning? because i really don't care about getting my period on a weekend.

Answers:

"You may start the combination pill at any time. If you start within five days after the start of your period, you are protected against pregnancy right away. You will not need to use a backup method of birth control. That means that if your period starts on a Wednesday morning, you can start the pill up to Monday morning to be protected right away. If you start at any other time during your menstrual cycle, you will be protected from pregnancy after seven days. Use another method of birth control — like a condom, female condom, diaphragm, or sponge — if you have vaginal intercourse during the first week of use."

Yes that is probably the only reason your doctor told you that.

Good luck!

No biggy. Take it tomorrow. The pills are usually labeled Sunday, Monday, etc so you can keep track of it you took it that day. Just remember you are a day behind on the labels.
