How long after copper iud insertion can I stop having protected sex?!

Question: How long after copper iud insertion can I stop having protected sex?
I had a copper IUD inserted 2 weeks ago. My OB/GYN told me not to have sex for two weeks so I wouldn't expel the IUD. I saw her today, and she said I'm good to go. Does that mean I can have unprotected sex with my husband without getting pregnant? Or do I need to give the IUD more time? I'm married but not ready to have kids yet. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answers:

From a medical standpoint, Its advisable to have 2 levels of protection. A copper IUD generally has a 1-2% failure rate per year. To minimise this risk, I would recommend taking an oral contraceptive pill as well to help prevent unwanted pregnancies.

And yes, its fine to have unprotected sex with your hubby =)
