Question: If i think i may need to go to er can i call and speak to a nurse to get her opinion ?
Answers:

If you think that you really need to go you should go!

Don't ever just go just because you think you need to. You need to be sure you need to go. If you are ever in question then call the poison control center if you ingested something or the hospital and ask to talk to a nurse.

Wow does no one even know what to actually do? Nurses and doctors in the ER constantly tell people to call if they don't know if they should go or not. The reason being is because people go into the ER for little things that don't need emergency care which makes the price of emergency care sky rocket since generally those people can't afford the care. They can tell you over the phone if you need emergency attention or not.

Good god!!!!! I've had it up to here with ignorant people. I'm sorry if that sounds bitchy but there are so many idiots on here. It says that 'you CAN' be given medical advice over the phone and you SHOULD call if you are in question.

I saw your previous question and like I said before the steroids that your doctor gave you is the reason why you have an increased pulse rate. They will tell you the same.

No because they cannot legally give you medical advise over the phone..and witbout seeing you as a patient. A hospital would not open themselves up for a lawsuit for giving wrong advise over the phone. Many people do not fully explain all symptoms so it would be hard to diagnose them without being an actual patient. (Ok lets say I call up and say "my stomach hurts" and nurse may think its just Gas..and it turned out to be my appendix...that's a lawsuit waiting to happen).

Experience and common sense

I agree with kitty on both the part about the ******* morons on here and calling before going. If you just rush off to the er you are taking precious time away from people who actually need EMERGENCY CARE. It's called passion not rudeness.

If you think you need to go, then you should just go. A nurse won't tell you on the phone whether you should or shouldn't come in because of liability issues.

Don't go if you may need to go. If you need to go, go
