Do i have to get a pap smear test done if im 20? i really dont want to.?!

Question: Do i have to get a pap smear test done if im 20? i really dont want to.?
Im not sexually active, but i read somewhere you are supposed to have one before you are 21. I really really dont want to get one done. Even reading about how the doctor is supposed to put their fingers inside made me feel like i was going to literally be sick.

I dont know if i could even ever have sex im so disgusted by the thought of anything going...there. cough.

do you think i could just keep putting it off for a few years?

Answers:

No you don't. In many countries, pap smears don't even start until a woman is 25 or 30, and then they're given every 3-5 years. Generally, American women have been brainwashed to think that they need pap smears more than they actually do. Pap smears are very unreliable tests and are likely to give women false positives and false negatives, meaning that many women go through the agony of thinking they have cervical cancer when they don't, and many women with cervical cancer think they are clean when they are not. You are within every right as a patient to refuse a pap smear, and some women even make the decision never to have one. Besides that, there is little evidence that preventative care makes a difference in mortality rates.

Pap smears are supposed to be given with informed consent, but doctors don't usually tell women the cons of a pap smear, resulting in a lot of false praise for pap smears.

I suggest you do research yourself and decide whether or not they're worth it, since cervical cancer was actually the biggest killer of women until the pap smear was invented.

Yes, you have to. If you "keep putting it off for a few years," you are endangering your health. It's not like they are doing pap tests just for the hell of it. It is a vital procedure that needs to be done, to ensure your well-being. Many types of cancer and diseases can be found through pap tests, and early detection saves lives.

Also, the longer you put it off, the less likely you are to ever have one. And when you do mature to the point of not finding a natural life process disgusting, you will probably want birth control and then you have to have one anyway.

You should get it done, its how they can test for cancer, so its pretty important and you shouldn't wait, i know its disgusting what they gotta do, but you have to do it!!

i actually find the age range for a smear is pathetic

im from the uk and wales is where im from but iv lived in england now for 6years...i moved back to wales for 2weeks and had a letter saying i was due for a smear...i was 20 years old....but befor having the smear i moved back to england, re-registered back with doctors and took this letter about the smear to a nurse who said i was not supposed to have one till im 24-25....but also after having my son i was told no matter what age you have a child that you should always be offered a smear few months after giving birth

its all confusing to me.....i have been suffering problems with my ovaries for 7months and now i have to go see a specialist doctor in hospital to find out whats really going on....and it makes me think even more now that what if there is something going on down there that they could of found out with a smear

so i also have to demand now that i want a smear whether they like it or not

you should never turn down a smear...just go get it done because it will be over and done with within minutes....my friend had a smear and they found she had cancer but lucky they were able to treat it well and quick...
believe me smears are worth it....i hate having people prodding up there at me ect but they need to make sure that everything is ok

get it done
