I've just had a miscarriage; how soon can I get back to normal activity?!

Question: I've just had a miscarriage; how soon can I get back to normal activity?
What should I do as regards going back to work, heavy lifting etc? There's a lot of advice out there about emotional consequences, but I want to know how quickly I can get back to normal so I'm looking for more practical information. Please help!

Answers:

As far as work goes, as soon as you feel emotionally ready. For heavy lifting etc, it depends how straight forward the miscarriage was, if no surgical intervention was needed (D & C) then you should be good to go a week after. If you did need surgical intervention I would ask the doctor who did the procedure what he prefers. I gave birth to my son at 21 weeks and was allowed to go back to normal activity straight away (I had a 14 month old at the time), physically I was fine, emotionally I was shattered.
Im very sorry for your loss.

21 week gestation loss and 4 early term miscarriages.

The norm is 6 weeks. Usually ok once you stop all bleeding and discharge.
