Question: What is the best way to go about becoming an ultrasound tech?
What is the best way to go about becoming an ultrasound tech?
I mean schools.. What all do I need to do?
I hear those "do it in 6 months" are a bust.. Something about not getting you ARDMs?
What schools are good, what will I study, and how long does it take?
Thanks for any info you're able to provide :)

Answers:

Ultrasound is a specialty of radiologic technologists. Your first step should be to enroll in a radiography program, most universities and community colleges offer them (you are right to stay away from the "degree in 6 months"). Make sure the college you are applying to is listed on www. JRCERT.org, that means they are accredited and you will be eligible to sit for the ARRT certification exam upon graduation. Once you start out as an x-ray tech you can look into specialties, look around to local colleges to see if they offer certificates or separate two year degrees. Your employer or ARRT may offer certification programs exclusively through them. There's all kinds of specialties Nuke med, CT, MRI, ultrasound.

Radiography student.
