Hysterectomy? (sorry if spelled wrong)?!

Question:

Hysterectomy? (sorry if spelled wrong)?

My mother had a hysterectomy about 5 weeks ago. I understand what it is and what happened. I know she shouldn't be better yet but she's not improving AT ALL!!! t first when she was still in hospital it took her too long to wake up after the operation, then her bowls wouldn't go at all, then she got an infection which made everything worse. She went for a check up about the infection last week and she was sent to hospital. They wanted her to stay the night but she refused. She's not meant to be doing much but she won't listen to anyone, she keeps cleaning...my dad isn't able to handle everything on his own...i can see she is still in sever pain when she so much as walks o gets out of bed. Is this normal? Is she goin to be ok?

Answers:

You're right, she should be recovering much more quickly. She may be taking so long to feel better because she's trying to do too much, too soon after surgery. If she refuses to follow her doctor's orders, it's going to take longer for her to recover.

I'm sure she'll probably be just fine in time. If you're old enough to have any say in the matter, then make sure that your mother starts resting more. Offer to help out around the house as much as possible. If everything is already done, she won't be able to do it herself! Also, try to enlist your dad's help more. If he can't handle all of the housework on his own, then you could help him out with it. He should put his foot down and make your mother stay in her bed for as long as the doctor recommends. Unfortunately, some people really need to just be TOLD what to do when it comes to their health.

Best wishes for your mother's recovery!
