Is it safe to have sex after a week of using the birth control pill?!

Question:

Is it safe to have sex after a week of using the birth control pill?

I haven't started having sex without a condom or taking a birth control pill yet, but yesterday I went to the gynecologist and got Yaz birth control. I'm going to start taking it tomorrow, and he said after a week of taking it I could start having sex without a condom.

That being said, however, my friend told me that you have to wait at least two months before having sex without a condom on the birth control pill, and I've read other answers on this website that say you have to wait a month. I don't know why my doctor would tell me a week, and other people would tell me 1-2 months? Where are the other people getting their information? Are birth control pills different in when they start working or something...?

P.S. yes, I'm legal to have sex, no, I'm not going to get any diseases because I'm only having sex with my boyfriend who was a virgin before we started (and I was too) so I don't want anyone yelling at me for asking a question about birth control.

Answers:

a lot of it depends on the study and research of which type of pill. I've prescribed Yaz and birth control numerous times and they have different time frames when they adjust to the body. With Yaz and the components of Yaz, which is much stronger and produces hormones much faster, I can say that your doctor is right. Wait atleast a week or two before having unprotected sex.
