Medical question concerning the menstrual cycle?!

Question:

Medical question concerning the menstrual cycle?

If a woman is on her period, and it becomes unbearably painful to defecate even though she really feels the need to, is it normal or should she seek medical attention? This isnt happening at the moment but it has happened many times in the past. Please only answer if you have a serious answer to my question, not something like "ewwwwwww". I hate that I even have to say that, but people should take a legitimate question like this seriously. Thanks to all those who are willing to give a real answer!

This only happens during my period. Its not like constipation, just the pressure involved in defecation creates a sharp cramp in my abdominal area, and around my anal area is piercing pain. I dont know why this is, or why it only happens when i'm on my period. Even with midol or pamprin this doesnt improve. Gas x makes me feel less pressure in my abdomen, but there is still the sharp pain

Sharp pain like a menstrual cramp

Answers:

This is not normal. If you are having stabbing pains, it might be endometriosis. I have had this happen to me, and I probably have endo. Otherwise, it could be bad constipation. I'm guessing that it's more than just constipation, if it only happens during your period. Either way, you really need to see a doctor, because it should not hurt to poo!

But sharp pain definitely sounds like endometriosis. I have been taking ibuprofen and Yasmin, but neither seems to help the stabbing pain in my rectum.
