Pains in ovaries?!

Question:

Pains in ovaries?

I'm having a VERY sharp pain in my left ovary RIGHT NOW.

My doctor said that I MIGHT have PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome)

What could be happening?

Additional Details

Well I'm on birth control for it.

I had bad acne, hair growth, irregular periods, constant weight gain, and my doctor put me on BC for it.

I'm also on some other medicine he gave me, forgot what it does but my mom's a nurse so she said its safe.

But the pain stopped now, I guess a cyst exploded?

Answers:

I have the same problem actually, and am on birth control pills to help it. As you might know, a cyst is like a bubble, and you have 1 or more of them on your ovaries. Sometimes, the cysts bursts (like how bubbles burst). That will create a very sharp pain, on your ovary since thats where the cyst is. Once my cousin actually went to the hospital because of the pain. It is really nothing to worry about at all, but of course, it is just super painful. Talk to your doctor about taking birth control pills to level out your hormone levels, so your cysts can die down rather than burst. I suggest you just take some ibuprofen (i.e. advil/tynenol) and relax, the pain should go away in a day or so. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

EDIT:
Well, seeing as your pain stopped, it really does sound like your cyst exploded. Since you may have PCOS, it could happen again, but trust me, the BC should really help make sure that most of your cysts dont burst and make you be in considerable pain. But I am glad you're feeling better, and if you have many cysts, you could talk to your doctor about surgery to remove the cysts (to avoid the painful bursts and other issues). Goodluck
