Pain in Ovary - How serious?!

Question:

Pain in Ovary - How serious?

So I have had some pain in my right ovary for about 2 1/2 weeks now. The pain is getting worse and now when I move certain ways the pain shoots down my right leg with a tingling sensation. I can manage just fine, but a little uncomfortable.

I recently moved and do not yet have an OB/GYN. I called 27 doctors off my insurance list today and no one can see me until the second week of August. Do you think it is okay to wait or is this cause to go to a hospital? I don't want to be an alarmist, but at the same time I am concerned.

Answers:

One of most common causes of ovarian pain are functional cysts. They can be excrutiating, but are benign. An ultrasound would confirm the diagnosis. Pain management would be nice. At least take something for the pain. If you check WebMD and other trusted sources, you will find that it is usually not serious, just very uncomfortable.

On the other hand, you could be having appendicitis, abdominal blockage, referred pain from somewhere else, etc. If you have a fever, vomit, or other syptoms, see someone promptly.

Best of luck. "Check my symptoms" on WebMD symptom checker is a good resource to help narrow down what might be going on. Good luck
