Starting birth control pills for the first time?!

Question:

Starting birth control pills for the first time?

Last Monday I went and got birth control pills for the first time. The doctor had me start them right away and said I should skip my next period. Well on Thursday of that same week I started my period. Im pretty sure the dr said I should skip my upcoming period so is this normal? And how long should this period last? And will I get a regular period again on the placebo pills?

Answers:

Until your body gets used to the new hormones you may experience what is called "break through bleeding". This is completely normal and nothing to worry about. It may be light spotting or a little heavier like a real period and could last for a day or a couple of days until your body makes the adjustment. Nothing to worry about.
