How soon after a C-section can I start working out with a personal trainer?!

Question:

How soon after a C-section can I start working out with a personal trainer?

I am delivering in October and wanted to know how many weeks should I wait before working out with a personal trainer. I need to loose 30 lbs and have worked out successfully with a trainer before so I am looking to return after the baby is born.

Answers:

You are going to want to wait at LEAST 6-8 weeks after you have your baby before going back to any strenuous activity. This should also be your OB's recommendation.

With your C section, an invasive procedure through muscle, you will have pain and discomfort for a few weeks, which will limit your ability to exercise.

With my first C section (I have had three of them), I was still having some pain from the healing process 10-12 weeks after my oldest was born. My abdominal muscles are still on the weak side.

Perhaps your trainer can help you with some easy exercises until you can lift greater than 10 pounds (this doc order lasts 4-6 weeks).

After your baby is born, take some time to enjoy your little angel, follow your doctor's orders. In this case, pain is NOT a good thing because your muscles have to heal.
