Please help!!!!??

I am a 15 yr old girl and I have a lump in my left underarm.Is it normal or is it something serious? Please tell!!!?

Very very hard to say without an exam. There are a few things that cause lumps and bumps.

First: Have you injured that arm...a cut, a scrape? If so, it is likely a reactive lymph node.

Second: If it looks like a pimple, it very well could be. With the hotter weather, it's common to get pimples where we normally would not...another possibility is an ingrown hair.

Third: We have sebaceous glands...the glands that produce oils to help keep our skin healthy...all throughout our body. Sometimes they get clogged and produce cysts. These are bothersome, but not serious. They can be treated with removal.

Fourth: It could be something else causing a lymph node or a cyst to form.

Because of the high uncertainty, and the several causes for lumps and bumps, especially in the armpits, if it becomes painful, see your doctor quickly (not emergency...but in a day or two). If it continues to grow, see your doctor. If it stays the same and doesn't change, you can probably wait a few days before going in for evaluation.

Regardless, you should probably be seen at some point. Have your mom take a look..she should be able to tell if it is a pimple or ingrown hair...the most minor. If it is subcutaneous, or under the skin, talk with your mom and together reach a decision on when it would be best for you to be seen by your doctor.
